India’s veteran fast bowler Mohammed Shami has been honored with the Arjuna Award for the year 2023. Shami was given this award by President Draupadi Murmu on Tuesday (January 9). Shami is the 58th cricketer who has been given the Arjuna Award. These include 12 women cricket players. After two years, a cricketer has received the Arjuna Award. Last time Shikhar Dhawan received this award in 2021. Salim Durrani is the first cricketer to receive the Arjuna Award. He was honored in 1961.

Shami did not get an opportunity to play in the initial matches. After the injury to Hardik Pandya, there was a change in the team composition and Shami got the place. After that he wreaked havoc and played an important role in taking the team to the finals.

Both father and brother used to play cricket for INDIA.

Shami’s father and elder brother, resident of Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, used to play cricket. Both were fast bowlers. It was from here that Shami’s love for bowling increased. Shami has done batting and wicketkeeping in his school. However, fast bowling has always been his priority. He was started playing cricket after seeing his elder brother. The stadium was 30 kilometers away from Shami’s house. He used to go to the stadium by bus.

 

Shami could not play for Uttar Pradesh.

When Shami was not selected for the Ranji team of Uttar Pradesh, he was not very disappointed. He tried for the second year also but was not selected. After making up his mind to leave UP for INDIAN TEAM, Shami talked to his coach and his coach made arrangements for him to play in Tripura. Mohammed Shami has so far taken 229 wickets in 64 test matches for India. He has 195 wickets in 101 ODI matches and 24 wickets in 23 T20 matches. Shami has played for many teams in IPL. He has played 110 matches. During this period Shami has taken 127 wickets.
